| The RGVS Instructors
Founded by Rocío Guitard in 1998, the RG Vocal Studio quickly became one of the most sought after schools for vocal training in the Greater Bay Area. Combining thorough knowledge of Vocal Science and Technique with over 3 decades of Music Study and Performance, RGVS takes great pride in being able to turn amateurs into viable singers (visit the Student Showcase for audio examples) as well as helping professional vocalists further their careers. Rocío's superior technical knowledge has made RGVS the only school endorsed by the Otolaryngologists at Stanford University School of Medicine, helping their patients recover their voices through vocal therapy. Although studying similar technical methods for years, Iari Melchor was able to transform his voice and upper range considerably in just one lesson with Rocío, thus deciding to join RGVS in 2003 to finetune his technical knowledge and deepen his understanding of the voice so he could pass it on to his students along with his expertise in Pop and Soul/R&B repertoire. In early 2008, Musical Theatre actress Izetta Fang had a similar eye-opening experience at RGVS when she discovered she could "belt" without strain (instead of "pushing harder", which is how she had been trained). Showing incredible progress in a very short time, she joined RGVS in late 2008 to help our Musical Theatre students with her expertise in the field while she finetunes her technical knowledge. Using similar technical methods enable our students to move between teachers without having to learn a new technique. We are firm believers that no single teacher has absolute knowledge and therefore encourage our students to pick a "regular" teacher and then take occasional lessons from the other teachers to broaden their knowledge and advance more quickly. As teachers we take lessons not just from each other, but also pursue any and all continuing education opportunities to ensure our ability to pass on the most up-to-date vocal knowledge to our students. Each of us has had to retrain bad vocal habits stemming from bad training. We pass on what really works and we know what it's like to either train from scratch or re-train. The RGVS Instructors are active professional performers, having to switch styles continously during performances and be able to keep up with extensive voice use for both teaching and performing. We are recording artists in Jazz, Pop and Theatre, and perform with bands such as Silicon Vibe (Classic Soul/R&B), Hip Affair (Top 40), Jazz by Design and in venues such as the New York Musical Theatre Festival or the American Musical Theatre of San Jose. We test our methods regularly on ourselves! |
